Question:

I thought I had heard that palm would be releasing a OS X native desktop by the end of 2001. I've just made the switch from the dark side and the only thing I'm missing is the ability to sync my palm. Did I just make up the end of the year thing or can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

Yep. We're all waiting for this to happen. Mail Palm and tell them to pull their socks up. I certainly did

I emailed Handspring, which licenses the Palm OS, the other day, and they said that they were working with Palm on an X version of Desktop, but didn't say when it would ship.

they don't have a product, and they won't have one. i emailed asking to beta test since i am familiar with the whole process. i referenced the mac os x application page that has a quote from them. they told me that they had no such software, and that they did not plan on releasing it. i composed an angry email, but instead of sending it, i just closed it. i realized that people lie, and that palm has obviously done that. i just let go of caring, and i just use it at work on a non-mac os x platform.

My Palm synchs with Classic when I am running OS X. It seems to work fine. (Actually, it works better than trying it on our Windows box.)

This is what I've been told.
Don't take it as confirmed, because it isn't.

Palm did say by the end of the year.
Now they say MWSF.
So they are about 12 days late?

/end rumor

Do you know if any software is being developed or already exists which will sync Entourage with Palm?

They are not listed as attendees of MW Expo on the Expo home page and neither is Handspring. Here is hoping some shareware genious can fill in the gap as Palm no longer seems to care about the Mac market.

What I have found out in the Mac world is that the Hardware is great, but we are like orphans when it comes to getting software. It sucks. Palm is obviously stupid.

After loading classic to sync, I have to pull the USB cable from my Mac and plug it back in so Palm Desktop can even see it, and half the time it fails!!! DAMN YOU PALM! HURRY UP!

Palm produce two produce two products:

(1) Hot sync manager which handles all the synching for
any application with synching capability

(2) Palm Desktop which is a PIM which uses (1)

There are other applications waiting such as Personal/Group
Organiser from Chronos which will sync when (1) is released.

Palm just posted a beta of Sync for X. Looks like they just beat the "end of year" deadline. A beta, but something nonetheless...
