I'm tired of my 2mb Visor, so I'm looking for a new one...
I'm considering these two PDAs...The Visor Edge or the Clie T415.
Why? Great looking, cheap...and great looking.

I can't choose though. I need help. They both look great, but which one would you prefer? What has the best features, pros and cons?

Thank you...I plan on buying one of these this Friday...Need some advice.

I just picked up a Visor Edge, and went through the same questions. I've heard bad things about the screens on the T415, so I ended up going for the Edge. Handspring seems to have a better track record on Mac support, although I guess we'll see how long it takes them to officially support OS X.

Handspring seems to be slowly moving away from the PDA side to the hybrid PDA/cell phone device though. Sony seems to have more innovative features shoved into it's PDA, such as the jog dial and memory stick socket. It's also running a more modern version of the Palm OS, if that makes a difference.

I'm happy with my Visor Edge though. It fits in well with my TiBook, and I really like the rechargable batteries & silent alarm.

Hopefully this helps.

I also heard about the T415's screen as well. That is the only reason why I might not get it.

What is the difference between Clie's Palm OS 4 and Edge's Palm OS..3? I think it's 3.

They both have rebates on it, so it's just about the same price...they both look great and are very thin.

How's the battery life on them?

Here's the "new features" in PalmOS 4: http://www.palmos.com/platform/palmos4.html

I can't forsee battery life being an issue, unless you use the PDA for long periods without hotsyncing. My battery hasn't dropped down below 95-99% with fairly casual use. 15 minutes of charging is probably adequate for a full days use.

Are you kidding? No Contest the Clie is better. The screen is twice the rez, if you think it might be a problem in any way why don't you have a look at it in the store first.

the Edge sucks.

Thank you for your opinions.

I already looked at both the Edge and Clie...I do like them both, but I'm going towards the Clie more, because...

1. It looks better, IMO.
2. Updated OS
3. Better Res.
4. It's smaller.
5. It looks better.

So...I hope the screen doesn't bother me...when I checked it out, it was fine to me...but, that was only for a few minutes.

Just went through this myself. The Clie screen isn't good for viewing at off angles, but other than that it's great. It's a much better PDA than the Edge, IMO.

clie, definately...

I just purchased one about 2 weeks ago, and it has been great. The big issue with the screen is the smallest font can be very thin and hard to read. There is a freeware program out there called "thinfont" which easily bolds up the font if you find this an issue.

It syncs perfectly with palm desktop 4.0 and the missing sync usb extensions can also allow you to mount a memory stick on to the desktop just like a harddrive.

My girlfriend has one of the old visor's and it constantly acts up. Won't sync, requiring you to reset it and/or rebuild the desktop file on the mac, or the latest fun trick it was pulling, was eating a new set of batteries in one day..

No contest here. I had a Visor Edge for awhile until someone stole it. I got reimbursed by Visa and chose to go with the Sony Clie 415. Its an awesome product due to the updated OS, compatibilty with other Sony products and memory stick features, high resolution and many other features. The Sony Clie 415 puts the Edge to shame. Buy the Clie. From someone whose had them both, I'm giving you this advice.

they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Does the Sony Clies work with Palm Desktop 4 for Mac OS 9/X? Sony's webpages don't list Mac OS compatibility...

Patrick - I'd like to know of your experience with the Clie once you purchase it - I'm considering it as well, and wonder:
1) Will it sync with my Powerbook G3 via Infrared without the Missing Link software?
2) Is the "Documents to Go" software included compatible with Office 2001 for Mac Word & Excel documents?
3) After using it for a while, what are your impressions of the screen?

Thanks for everyone's advice and help with this!

1) you do not need the missing sync software with palm desktop 4. I have successfully synced via infrared with osx on my powerbook g3, have not tried it in 9.
2) haven't messed around with documents to go so I can't answer that question. But you can get some of the extras off of the bundled clie cd without using virtual pc or a pc by just pulling the .prc files individually.
3) The only part that was ever hard to read was the smallest font, as it is very razor thin (looks like it's rendered using a single pixel of the screen. I've installed the thinfont freeware patch which beefs up the font without having to switch to a larger font, and now have zero complaints about the screen. Technically, it's not the screen, but just the smallest font that can be hard to read...
