I have been reading the column and have experienced the same problems as everyone else with the Beta version of the Palm desktop software for OS X. I have found a solution that so far has worked so far. Here is what I did:

1.Go to the system preferences.
2. Click on "Login".
3. Under Login Items it says: "These items will open automatically when you log in:" Select "Palm Desktop Background".
4. Restart or relogin.

This has helped me out. It finally fricken works! It's about time. Hope this helps everyone, if you felt like I did, this was VERY irritating. I use my palm everyday. By the way, my system config is a Palm m505 with a 500Mhz x2 G4 running OS X.

Let me know if this helps, by the way. Ever since I synched with the Beta the very first time, it screwed up my password/security prefs. I used to have my password activate itself at 7:00am, but now it doesn't really work but at random times. Let me know if anyone else has this problem.

So hiding the Palm Desktop Background helped you out...? I couldn't remember if it was hidden when it was installed or not. What is yours set to.

Thanks,

Scott

Actually, it just stopped working today. It kept it working for awhile. But today I tried to access some contacts on my desktop and the program didn't even let me see anything. This is absurd. This beta shouldn't have even been released. In my opinion it isn't even out of Alpha stage. What is wrong with the damn thing?

I experienced the same thing and had to re-install for it to work.

Same thing in VPC 4.02....re-install or stall out.
