Turn off beam receive in PDA general preferences.

Turn on Irda on your powerbook.

Line up PDA with Irda port.

Hotsync.

Now can someone tell me how to turn off Irda on my Pismo?

IrDA is "on" by default, in OS X, isn't it?

No matter *what* I try, I can't get my Clie N760C to sync under Palm Desktop 4.0, under OS X. Before Palm released this, I sync'd under after rebooting in OS 9.2 via IR with *no* problems at all (my Pismo doesn't even recognize the Clie-supplied USB cradle under either OS X or 9.2). Now, I get a successful hotsync established, but within about 2 minutes, get disconnected, with a message: "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop was lost........"

BTW: why did you have to turn off "beam receive" on your Clie? (I tried it both on and off, and I still get a prompt disconnect)

Any helpful hints in syncing Clie to PowerBooks via IR would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I'm going to have to go through the tedious task of uninstalling Palm Desktop 4.0, and reinstalling the old Classic OS 9 version

Found some new info, not good. Deep within the FAQ section at palm.com, lies the answer to my problem: IR via Palm v. 4.0 does not allow any use of .prc or .pdb files - essentially meaning no installations are possible via IR!

The geniuses at palm somehow forgot this major deficiency when writing the installation "Read Me," causing me to lose 3 days of aggravation, multiple install/uninstall/reinstallations, troubleshooting, and various combinations of IR settings. Had they simply let us know that this is just another piece-of-shit beta, I'd have trashed it and stuck with the tediousness of having to reboot into OS 9 to IR sync.

Thanks for nothing, you lazy slobs at Palm!!!!!!!

Addendum: Although no installations are possible via IR, you can use it to sync your address book and date book. Woopee...........

I had the same problem when I tried to install apps. Luckily I have a MS reader (Imation FlashGO! - MS mounts as a disk image on desktop) so I transfered prc and pdb files onto a MS and then onto the Clie.

Try a hotsync without installing anything.

Turned beam receive off because I read this thread.
http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/ulti...9&t=000579

It says that if the beam receive is on, then you get a message that the port is in use.

There's an Irda icon in my menu bar (next to the clock). The first time I tried to hotsync, I had to click on it to "Turn Irda on". Now I can't seem to choose "Turn Irda off", and the circle icon in the menu bar keeps falshing. I' worried that the Irda receiver draws power as it waits for a signal. This is ok if I'm plugged into the mains, but on battery it must drain faster.

Anyway hope hotsync works out for you.
