Hello all. I just received a Palm m500 as a gift. i have not really had a chance to set it up yet, but I thought I would offer pose this question:

I am currently using a Handspring Visor Platinum. I want to switch to this new Palm. What is the most painless way to do this giving the following information:

1) I currently use the Hanspring version of Palm Desktop. It is the ONLY Classic application that I use. I would like to begin using the OS X version of the Palm Software.

2) I would like to port all my apps (not just my palm data) into the new Palm m500. Some of which are commercial (I have the original CD, but if there is an easier way to port, I am interested).

3) I use Office X, and if possible would like to sync with Entourage (Note: I have never sync'd my Visor with entourage, but if there is a conduit available, I am interested in doing this.

I will not be using the Visor once the m500 is set up. I just want to know the best way to port all my data and upgrade to the OS X version of the Palm Desktop software.

For what it is worth, I am running off of a Rev A ibook, 12.1 GB HD, 288 MB Ram. The m500 is brand new and the Visor Platinum had a GPS module attached to it once upon a time, but currently does not have any modules.

Thank you,

O

you should probably use a tool like BackupBuddy to get all information out of your old PDA and into the new one. Check <a href="http://www.palmgear.com/" target="_blank">http://www.palmgear.com/</a>

When I upgraded to my m505, I simply set my conduit settings to have the Palm Desktop software (all of the different conduits) overwrite the handheld. Voila, my Palm was ready to go!
good luck!

BTW, come July 15th (if MS is on schedule, and they release the conduit), you should be able to sync with Entourage X

The OS 9 and OS X versions of PD do not share the same files, to start using the new version, you will need to start from scratch. Be sure to make a backup of your PD data files too, the OS X installer deletes the old files.
2. Use backupbuddy, as mentioned before, but be sure to remove any of the Handspring updater files before you do, and do the conversion in OS9, as the new version is not available for OS X yet.
3. There is not a conduit for this available for X yet, look <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/mac/officex/officex_main.asp?embFName=palm.asp&contonly=1" target="_blank">here</a>
