I'm having the same trouble. Palm V w/ a Keyspan USB/Serial adaptor, and I'm trying out Palm 4.0 for the first time. Now I can't synch at all. My palm tries to connect, and it cannot seem to be able to. Any help at all would be welcome.
Thanks

I think the problem is likely to be the driver for your serial-usb adapter. I have an adapter from Belkin and I'm having the trouble. When I bought the adapter the box said it was compatible with MacOS but did list version numbers. When I first began using it I was using version 2.x of palm desktop and entourage for classic. When I upgraded to palm desktop 4.0 for OS X that's when things stopped working. The problem is that the driver for the adapter is for OS 8 and up but not OS X. I emailed Belkin to see if there was an OS X version of the driver available and the reply I got back basically said that a driver was in the works but they could not tell me when it might be available.
I would email or call the vendor of your adapter to see if they have an OS X version of the driver for their adapter. If they don't, you probably either have to wait until they write one or try another adapter that is OSX compatable. I'm waiting for now to see when Belkin will come out with a new driver. Hopefully soon because I don't want to buy another adapter to replace one that was working just fine until I switched to the OSX version of the software.
Hope this helps. Let me know how things work out for you.
Brett

Same problem. I just loaded driver 1.05 for my Keyspan, which I use with my Palm IIIxe and the Palm 4.0 software. Sometimes it will start to synchronize, then stop. Sometimes, it will not even bring up the synchronizing application. Very frustrating!

That trick worked in OS 9 but has not done it in OS X. It is frustrating enough having to wait for Entourage, but not having my Palm synchronize at all is maddening.

It has worked for me at least once in OS X. I had of course hoped that such shenanigans had been done away with in the release version of Desktop 4.0.
I am at the point, where sometimes reinstalling Palm Desktop helps. But who wants to do that all the time. 4.0 really is still a public beta. I hope that they are working on a 4.1.

here's a new 'routine' i figured out (it seems to work)
1. unplug the usb adaptor from the computer/hub
2. open, disable then close hotsync manager
3. re-connect usb adaptor
4. open, enable then close hotsync manager
5. place palm in cradle
6. perform hotsync
so far i've had more success with this method than anything else i've tried.

I have had to go through this type of procedure ever since I have used the Palm USB-Connect adaptor. This includes pre-4.0 classic versions of Palm Desktop, the Palm Desktop 4.0 beta, and the Palm Desktop 4.0 release version. I don't understand, why the Palm people haven't tackled this issue.

I'm able to hotsync without any trouble. Running 10.1.4, using a keyspan USB-serial adapter, Palm 4.0 with a Palm m105. I enable hotsync manager manually each time (rather than have it enabled automatically at start up). Connection setting is listed as usa19qi111p1.-p. Using the latest keyspan drivers. Keyspan adapter connected through USB hub.
