I'm pretty new to the Newt scene...however, I have a pretty decent setup* and am really looking foward to making full use of it's abilities. The only problem is that I can't seem to install any packages! I have all the software (NCU, PDA package downloader, etc.) but none of them see the .pkg files I have! Is there something I'm missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

*MP2000 upgraded to 2100, 32Mb SRAM upgrade, 2x ethernet cards, 33.6 PC card modem, Newton 28.8 modem, keyboard w/serial dongle and connection cable, spare battery, Newton carrying case and an arse-load of software.

I had this problem too. Get ResEdit (for classic, X requires another program). Change the file type of the package to "pkg" and the creator code to "pkgX".

Hope this works!

My name's ...uh... it's a bummer man.

You are the man! Anyone ever tell you that?

It worked like a charm...now if only I can figure out why the Newton Device Driver is missing...

Thanks again!

Just for your Newbie reference: The Newton FAQ (hosted at www.thisoldnewt.com, among other sites), and the mailing list at www.newtontalk.net are probably the best Active Newton resources on the 'net right now.

There's this app called NewTen, it's OS X native and I install packages with it all the time, no problemo.

Just thought I'd mention it.

There's an OS X app called Packager that only does one thing: change the type and creator codes on newton packages so you can install them. I don't remember where I got it from, but it works great. HTH.
