Hey all, I recently purchased an MP 130 from a friend. However, I can't seem to get the backlight to work. Is there a way to turn it on (I don't have manuals...yet, he says) manually, or is it supposed to be automatic, in which case, I guess it's busted. What about repairs on Newtons, is there some place that can do them? Sorry 'bout all the questions. It's a great little machine...

Congrats on you adopting a Newton!

Well, to activate the backlight on Newtons, just hold down the power button for about 2 secs... If it doesnt come on after holding it down, it could be broken.

I guess Newtons with backlit screens, only have so many hours of use. I think I read that they use the same materials as Indiglo??? Yours may have run out of juice. I think there's a topic in the FAQ on http://www.planetnewton.com about the screens.

Thanks all for the replies. The backlight flickered on for a second or two last night, did that about 3 times, but that's been it since. I have tried holding the button down, even opened the case to see if I could jiggle something around, but to no avail. In any case, do you know who still repairs Newtons, I heard it was only some place on the mainland US (I live in Hawaii...shipping is a pain). I'll check planetnewton...thanks again.
