'sup y'all? i'm thinking about picking up a palm PDA sometime within the next year. i'd like to use the palm as my main computer, mainly to read and reply to email from. i might need to sync it with a USB mac, but that's not a real priority.

anyway, i was thinking about getting a palm Vx with the modem. is this a reasonable choice? money isn't a big issue either. i just need something that i can carry around in my pocket and dial-up an ISP with to send and receive mail. i should also mention that i'd be using the PDA in japan, in case there are any issues with power outlets and phone connections.

does anybody have any points, recommendations, etc.? this would be my first palm/PDA so i'm sure there are some things i'm not aware of.

The Palm is not intended to be a computer. It is intended to be a companion to a computer. You need a computer in addition to a Palm.

You may be able to get away with a Pocket PC as a computer, but there is no easy way to synchronize that with a Mac.

i realize a PDA isn't intended to be used as a desktop machine. what i want one for is sending and receiving email and not much else.

what i'd like info on is specific models which would do a reasonable job of dialing up an ISP, sending/receiving email, and storing a fair number of messages. can this be done with a palm?
