Hi All,

When I sync my Palm Vx (to Firewire PB), via USB adaptor, it can take minutes to move beyond the "identifying user" (message on the Palm, the message on the Mac is "determining handheld configuration") stage of the sync. Until that time, my machine is locked up.

Anybody else have this problem? Could is be because my memory is quite full (only 200K or so free), or some conduit I have installed or what?

Hope someone can help me solve this one (I don't know as much about Palm as I do Mac :-)

Try updating your palm software (specifically hotsync manager)

Thanks for the advice ibookuser 2, but that was the first thing I checked (latest at Palm's support site is 2.6.1, which I've been running).

Can anyone confirm my suspicion that perhaps it's the fact that this Palm is pretty well maxed out (RAM, only 260Kb or so free) that may be the problem? If so, I can live with that, if not, I'd sure like to solve this problem.

TIA for any further help,

Chas

Its possible a file on your palm has become corrupted. You'd have to hard reset to be sure, which means erasing all of your data.

woah, that's pretty severe!

If I hard reset, I can't rebuild my Palm from my backupbuddy backups, 'cause that'll just put any corrupted file back on the machine.

Palm just wrote back to me (2 and a half weeks after I asked for help) and has told me to call my local tech-support number (gee, can I really?). Wish me luck!

Thanks again for the info

Chas
