I know that this may not be the proper forum, but at least I am reaching the audience I seek. I recently purchased a 130 but am already looking to buy a 2X00 (preferably a 2000 since they are cheaper). Where would people recommend I look for one at a reasonable price (not ebay)?

Also, if you have a 2000 and want to sell it, email me (dechant@stolaf.edu) and I'll see what I can do about making an offer.

You gotta get the MP2100! You need the internal 4 meg. DRAM! Try the listserv 'NewtonTalk', subscribe thru http://www.planetnewton.com . There's always somebody with extras to sell. Also try http://www.deja.com, look for the comp.sys.newton.marketplace, I think. Look for US$300-500. Good luck!

About how long does it usually take to get a reply on www.deja.com ? I posted something the other day and haven't heard anything yet.

http://www.ebay.com is the only way to go for newtons. Also try Yahoo Classifieds or www.classifieds2000.com

Why? Why is the extra DRAM important (I am expecting a 2000 any day now).

"Why? Why is the extra DRAM important (I am expecting a 2000 any day now)."

Put it this way, would you want to run a Mac with 32 megs. of RAM??? DRAM in Newton is the same as RAM in desktop.

The DRAM allows one very important thing...
-1. The 'Heap' goes way up, that allows more apps. to be open and used. The original MP2000 kept giving me the 'out of memory(heap)' when I tried to do email, web browsing, and bouncing between apps. More 'heap', more usable computer.

BTW, the 'flash' RAM only holds info./apps., the 'space' to allow execution of code is in the DRAM.

BTW, David MacNeil at pencomputing.com has a great 'history' about the Newtons, check out the 'NewtonNotes', especially when the MP2100 was released(which is the MP2000 but with the 4 meg. DRAM increase).

I got it (well, it should arrive today) from a guy listed in the MacWorld UK Classifieds section. It cost me £200 (ukp)

Thanks, sine. I have a bunch of packages already but I am always looking for more. Send them to me at dechant@stolaf.edu

BTW, I use it more and more each day. Brain augmentation almost seems to be too mild a term. As for the upgrade, I might have to wait a bit. But believe me, its on the list.
