Currently I'm working on getting some connectors from a source in Japan call JAE.
I am going to start the reproducting of the following-- all Newton battery packs, Serial dongles, audio connectors (never developed by Apple), and a docking station for the 2xxx series (also never made by Apple). As soon as I get these parts i'm %99 ready to go I have already got a maker for the circuit boards.
The battery packs will most likely be the first things to hit the market. Their going to be a little pricey since I'm having a company do a run of 1,000 parts to start. looking around $40-50 USA Funds.
I'm reworking the desgign to allow you to open the plastics and replace dead cells as the pack wears out (unlike Apple's).
If you will be intrested in the purchase of a battery pack please send me an Email at

Cool!
A few suggestions for the dongle though:
Serial dongles are pretty available thru eBay, unless you can provide them for around $10, its probably not lucritive enough. An audio dongle would be GREAT, one thing I and maybe more ppl would like is a jack for a jabra type earphone/mic combo (like for cell phones) so you can listen to/record to your Newton way easier!
I would LOVE a docking bay! :^]
GOOD LUCK!

Audio connector...
I was planning on adding a rca and stereo connector. I have a head set that has a mic and I want to be able to use it
I'm talking with a few people that made prototypes of these things. I have a plan for a docking station that looks like the end of a 2xxx series newton it will slip over the top of the newton for better connection. I will have a cut out notch for the pen hold so it can still be used.
About the serial dongle I see them on ebay a lot an they sell for around 10-20 I'm not sure of the cost on it yet.

Yes!
An ambitious but worthy project. The Jabra connectors would be an excellent addition too. Have you also mentioned this on the NewtonTalk mail list? I don't receive it any more, but they are a strong Newton community and they would love products like this.
best wishes!

I'm in talks with a plastics part maker for the shells. Also I'm talking with JAE about the connectors seems they don't make them anymore and I may have to buy 500 and give them a 12 week lead time to get the parts.
I am working on the plans for the docking station. What i'm trying to design is a dockstation that looks alot like the top of the 2xxx model. It will be a little bigger an it will side over the newton.
So far this is what I'm planning a small amplified speaker, line in and out (rca and mini stereo type) power and two serial dongles if possible.
Also i'm thinking of model a new battery tray for the 110-130 and the 2xxx models. Just waiting on quotes
