I have a Handspring Visor (2MB) and a kicken' G4 500 Duel Processor machine. The palm software is installed and I'm having problems Syncing. When I press the Sync button on the cradle nothing happens. The only response I get of anykind is right after I restart and I press the Hot Sync button and the finder unexpedly quits, restarts and that's it. Someone help!

When you boot the G4 the "Serial Port Monitor" should start up. I think it's in the startup folder? (I haven't looked there in a while) If that is what's crashing with the type 1 error then you wont be able to sync. Look in the palm folder and see if Serial Port Monitor is running. If not double click on it and see what happens. Do you have the latest update? If not then get it from Handspring.

If it is running then try a hard rest on the Visor.

well, i'm still stuck...I figured I'd start by uninstalling all the palm software. I then downloaded the latest version of the palm desktop software off of the handspring website. I reinstalled the software, made sure all the settings were right and the serial monitor was running and tried to sync again. And again my Mac just sat there like nothing happened. Also of note is the fact that in the Apple System Profiler the Palm USB cradle shows up just fine. AHHH!! Does anyone know what could be happening??

Reset the Visor. Stick a paper clip in the hole in the back.

Thanks, Scott. I got it working today thank god after I installed a fresh copy of OS 9 on a seperate partition and narrowed down the problem. It turned out to be some preference file...whatever. Thanks a lot though for your suggestions.
