I developed this weird problem just recently which seems to be intermittent. Sometimes when I hit the power off button the unit will not turn off. Sometimes when I hit it repeatedly it will still not to off and other times it will. I have had to take the batteries out on several occasions to keep the unit from draining them.

I've already tried calling Palm. What a waste of time. They said they could fix it for $100 but they couldn't offer any help or explanation!! I've also tried doing a soft restart, a hard restart and leaving the batteries out overnight. None of these solutions seems to be a permenent fix.

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

This same exact thing happens to me all the time too with my IIIe. sometimes it does not want to turn on as well. I have sent the palm back twice already. it seems the problem, i believe stems from where the powerbutton lies. it becomes easy when you carry it in your pocket or some of the many carrying cases for the power to be pushed in at an angle, and then the connection goes bad. you can see for youself how easy it is to jiggle the power button so that it seems loose. Therefore it is a hardware problem which should be covered under the warranty, if you are out of warranty then it seems your only option is to pay, b/c resetting it won't help

Thanks for the info! Can't believe that more people aren't encountering this problem. I discovered a work around for the problem which seems to be working pretty consistently though it is a bit of a nuisance. If I hold down the power button for at least 20 seconds, the unit usually turns off. Why it should work this way at 20 seconds (and longer) and not at 10 seconds is a mystery to me. Go figure!!
