I know both of these topics have probably been posted before, but hey, I'm a latecomer to the Newton party. First of all, does anyone know where I can buy decent Flash memory cards for my uMP2k? (that's right, I got another new one and went all out this time -- sine, you'd be proud) I don't want to do eBay if possible and I just missed out on that special at InfoNewt.

Also, I have a slight problem in getting ethernet drivers onto my Newt. I synced it with our old 575 and had no problems with the packages on Apple CDs, but I also have a Newted CD-ROM, but its in Windoze format. NCU, therefore, will not recognize these as packages so I can't install them. I am going to try on my mom's peecee at work tomorrow and we'll see if that works out. Even if it does, I have a bunch of packages sitting on my iMac at school that may or may not be in package format (does the icon give a clue?). I know there is a utility out there that will fix file formats into package formats, but I don't know where to find it. I have looked at UNNA and the Newton Cage and TUCOWS to no avail. Anyone know?

the program for which you are searching is called Packtype, a small app adapted from filetyper to fix .pkg's.

You can get it here: http://newted.dyndns.org/users/weyer...o.htm#PackType

So do I. But without my MP2100, development is slow.

Bonjour! Paul! Ça va?

Yes, thanks.

Paul is without an MP?

In fact someone lent me a MP120.

My goodness, what ever happened Paul?

I was working on the driver and I made a system patch. But I made it too fast, and it blocked two Newtons.

Blocked out two Newtons? So that means the ROM was patched so that it would not function? Ouch!
could u not find one of the developers who had a proto Newt with a Flash rom?? I heard that someone found a guy with one... i forget the site unfortunately.

In fact, the thing is a little bit more complex.
The system patch is in the first blocks on the flash memory. The system loads it before I can ask to erase the store (and anyway, erasing the store doesn't erase the system patch).

could u not find one of the developers who had a proto Newt with a Flash rom??

Well, I'm not sure this would help. Well, to be correct, I now know how to erase the system patch, but I didn't know when I broke the Newtons. I think that to flash such a ROM Board, you need either some special hardware or a working Newton (it seems to me that Hammer allows to flash such ROMs).

The only thing that could have worked was to install a German ROM Board. The system does a checksum check of the ROM and if it doesn't match, it erases the system patch. But, I didn't thought I could get quickly such a ROM Board and my serial port was broken anyway. But it's true that I thought that repair will take less time.

I heard that someone found a guy with one... i forget the site unfortunately.

My next plan is a ROM Board for my MP2x00 US, so that I could work in the system patch industry again and maybe fix the -10061 & Unicode bugs ;-)

Regards,

Paul

Sine, you mean sending me the ROM Board?
You know, my Newton is currently repaired by Apple, so the ROM Board itself won't help. And the ROM Board wasn't the damaged part.

What I meant is that if the Newton is blocked by a non working system patch, the only possible although unsure way to remove the system patch is to put a German ROM Board so that it will erase the patch.

The other method is to design a ROM Board with whatever code I want on it. If I am able to make such a ROM Board, I will be able to make one which only work is to erase the internal memory including the system patch. And this ROM Board will probably include 8 MB of additional internal Flash memory like some DVT ROM Boards.

Regards,

Paul
