I cannot, for the life of me get the Palm Desktop/ Hot Sync to work with OS 9.x. I have tried three different machines (iMac DV, iMac, 2nd generation, and a Cube) with OS 9.1, 9.0.4, and 9.0.4 respectively. I have tried a IIIx, IIIc, and Palm V, all of which failed.

The symptom is this: I put the Palm in the cradle, push the hot sync button, and the Hot Sync window pops up on the Mac. Immediately, the Mac freezes (no response from mouse movement, or command-option-esc). I have to force restart the Mac.

I have upgraded the Palm software to 2.6.1 and am using the Palm USB adaptor kit. Palm tech support acts like they never have heard such a complaint. The thing that gets me is that it happens, exactly as described here, on all three machines. Any ideas?

Finally, another person with the same problem I have. I will tell you have I have discovered. 1-add more memory to the hot synch application, that allowed me to be able to sync more often, 2-on my case (2 processor G4 and Palm Vx), I can synch without a problem once after a fresh reboot. The second synch locks the machine up (sometimes the sync is just ignored and my mac goes on ok, but the palm times out).

I have tried connecting the Palm USB adapter to the G4 directly, to the monitor USB hub, or even a Belkin hub I have. I know for a fact that it does not work at all via the Belkin hub. The monitor and G4 connections produce what I mentioned above.

Anybody else? I am down to doing sync only twice a week (monday mornings and friday afternoon), which is ridiculous...
