I would like a PDA to view names and addresses, some text files, and for making text notes. Someone is selling a used PalmPilotPro for $100. Should I consider getting it to use with my iMac (rev. A)? I understand if it works at all it will probably need a separate adaptor.

If you're going to spend $100 why not spend $149 for a Visor and get something you you can expand/upgrade and get tons of apps that will work on it? Plus it's USB out of the box.

[edit]

Sorry it's $179 with the cradle which you may not need because you can use the IR to hot sync. (?)

Thanks. I think I'll keep looking for something I can find out about on MacReviewZone to come up at an attractive price.

If you decide to go with a PalmPilot Professional, you will need a USB to PC serial adaptor. I reccomend the Keyspan USB PDA Adaptor. I would reccomend the PalmConnect USB Kit, except that it doesn't work with anything earlier than the Palm III.

Thank you. I'll remember to look for a PalmConnect USB Kit if I get a chance to pick up a III series Palm at a bargain.

This configuration works, but I reccommend against it. With all of the troubleshooting I have to do with my converter, I'd really go for the Visor which would run USB native.
