If I had that price limit, I'd get the Agenda. (http://www.agendacomputing.com/) It runs linux and although it doesent have many apps, i bet i'll attract alot of developers.

Handspring Visor is a good bet that has served me well. Lots of software, easy syncing with Macs, expandable, good service.

A weakness is that the OS isn't updatable, I hear. But what exciting new innovations are going to come to the ultra simple and thin PalmOS, although Palm mey see a competetive advantage in adding some such advances so Visors couldn't have them. But I don't think they'd want to piss off there Licensees like that.

Anyhow, Visor is good and cheap.

Death,

I would save up another $69.00 and then buy a Palm IIIxe or Handspring Visor Deluxe.

Both come with 8 megs, 4 times their entry level versions that your current budget allows. Either is well worth the price. I have enjoyed my IIIxe tremendously since buying in May.

Best of luck with your new PDA!

You could look around on eBay for an Apple Newton.. they're a few years old, discontinued, and kinda bulky, but they have a good OS, industry- best handwriting recognition, and a host of other advantages (just look around this forum).. on eBay, Newton MessagePad120's go for $50-75, 130's for $120-150, 2000/2100's for $250+.. do a little searching, and you might get lucky! that's what I'm hoping to do in the near future.

Your options are limited, especially if you want to get something to synchronize with a Mac.

If you have a USB-equiped Mac, the only Palm OS unit you can afford is the Visor ($180 before tax and/or shipping). If you have a USB Mac and absolutely want a Palm m100, you can get a PalmConnect USB kit, but this will put you $10 over your budget ($150 + $40 before shipping and/or tax).

If your Mac doesn't have USB, you have two options: Palm m100 ($150 + $6 for a Mac serial adaptor before shipping and/or tax) or Visor Solo and a serial cradle ($150 + $30 before shipping and/or tax).

So your options are:
USB:
Visor: $180
Palm m100 + PalmConnect USB kit: $190

serial:
Palm m100 + Mac serial adaptor: $156
Visor Solo + serial cradle: $180

I just got a Palm m100. Clean, simple design on both the hardware and software sides. Connects to my iMac very easily. The price is just out of your reach, so s t r e t c h a bit.

Good Luck.

Consider this a vote for the low end Visor.
The extra ram and cool colors of the high end are neat but I've had mine almost a year and haven't found a need for more ram yet. I figure when that happens that's what the expansion slot is all about.

Plus when they get the bugs worked out on the cell phone Springboard module you'll have all your contact numbers hotlinked to your Mac, your cell phone and your PDA
