I have re-entered the Newton world with a Messagepad 2000 and am trying to sign onto my ISP using a PCMCIA modem, a Megahertz XJ1560. I have downloaded the appropriate driver from the web and installed it. When I try to sign on, after loading the modem driver, it says "Loading the PPP driver...." and then I get an internet error 16022. (I looked up the error code, which says, "16022 Operation failed because a resource was not available." I am using Simple Mail. Any ideas what is missing or what I might need to do? Thanks.

Well that error occurs when you dont have the modem installed, or the modem prefs point to the wrong slot. In the modem prefs slip, select the TOP or BOTTOM slot and use the modem in that slot you choose. Do not use the "any PC card" selection.
That should fix your problem.

No, that did not resolve it. I have tried it with all different combinations, and it has not worked. Is there anything else that needs to be installed for the machine to recognize the modem? (It does recognize it as a communications card.)

Yes, that DID resolve it. Thanks!

Now, I have a Linksys EC2T PCMCIA Ethernet Card which the Newton does not recognize. Do I need to install drivers or some package for it?

Well you can try the drivers that are here: http://www.chuma.org/newton/ethernet/
There probably isnt that exact card but try all the different drivers, one might work.
