When my friend turns on his Plam Vx he gets the folowing error: DataMgr.c, line: 8589, Index out of range. He is curious how this can be resolved, and how this happened.

Try this

If you have the OmniSky modem, try this:
In the OSSupport folder on your CD there is an uninstaller.prc. [while in this folder note the name of the installer, if it is 5-11 and you are running Palm OS 3.5, you should call OmniSky support for an update] Sync this to your handheld. After this you will have a program on your handheld called UninstPro. Run this. This is supposed to uninstall all of your OmniSky software. Now, you need to reinstall.
I hope this works.

This is not really a reply, but I get the same error message on my Palm IIIxe when using my cell phone as a modem. I receive the error when I try downloading/sending email, and it goes into a reset loop that I can't get out of. What is the solution? Thanks

I wish I could offer help, but I'm having the same problem.
I've noticed that a "soft reset" works to get out of the reset loop, but then the network library is unavailable. At least that postpones a hard-reset.
I've tried several things, including deleting the web clipping libararies during a soft reset, and clearing the "open" bit on all of the relevant applications... nothing has worked so far.
Is there some way to examine what the palm is doing on boot? If we could figure this out, it would help a lot in narrowing down the offending code.

Considering the age of this post, I never thought I would have to respond... But now I am. HIs solution was to restart 15 times, the problem hasn't come back yet... Ah the wonders of PDAs.... Not a single problem with my Newton yet .

I've had to reinstall twice due to this problem and I wasn't about to do the whole reinstallation process again. Try deleting your Palm AIM. That fixed my problem pretty quick.
