Those who follow the rumors have known for a while now about these new Palm devices that have been introduced today. However, in reading this article, http://my.aol.com/news/news_story.ps...03190004521211 , I found a line quite disturbing:
Other new features that will put Palm back on track with competitors' offerings include: 16-bit color in the m505 model; a new version 4.0 operating system with built-in wireless Internet access; a cradle with USB that will let Palm devices now work also with Macintosh computers.
Since when did Palm's pdas never work with a Mac? Granted, there never was out-of-the-box access, but I am angered at the insinuation of lack of mac compatibility in previous products. We, as Mac users, were singled out, and I, for one, didn't like it. How do you take this last statement?

well. i guess you can take it that way, but id say it was just a poorly written sentence that could be easily misconstrued as a slam against mac.

In the past Palm have treated mac users a bit like second best because you had to buy the macpac to get it to work. Now we can have what they call a better `out of the box experience' . You get a cradle you can plug straight in (if you have a USB mac), mac software on the CD and a manual which is supposed to being written with Mac bits in it.

Now lets just hope this means we will be getting a carbon hotsync software soon.

Actually, if you looked closer, you'd realize that it is an Associated Press (AP) article that many sites actually posted.

RE: Article Announcing Palm m500- m505
Actually, I interpreted the language as being quite appologetic to the Mac Community and a fearful response to the competition. Palm blew it big time by releasing thier product as being PC compatible out of the box, and Mac compatible with a $50 add-on. Hanspring came along and "corrected" this error , much to Palm's chagrin! So now Palm is making it up to Mac Users and sending a little message to Handspring. My first PDA was and is a Handspring for this reason. However, I may trade this in for the Palm m505 for the following reasons:
1. Palm 505 runs Palm 4.0 which tops Handsprings's palm 3.5 OS by a nose, and comes with some nice features added.
2. Palm's expansion solution is very dainty, whereas the new Hanspring "Edge" is now a clunky accessory plus the Springboard Module. Handspring is going backwards.
3. The press report that Handspring is about to jump in bed with " The Dark Side", yes Microsoft- to compete with Palm, they plan to licence Windows CE for use on Hansprings ! Yuck !
The most inteesting thing about what's happening in the computer world is that Apple is back, as the darling of the Next Economy.

It does make you wonder, though, if Palm is going to abandon the wireless architecture of the Palm VII -- I'm not sure you could shoehorn wireless access into any of the new models.
