I have looked through similar postings before, but haven't found anything to answer my questions.

Here is my setup:

iMac DVSE (500 MHz, 192 gigs of RAM); Mac OS 9.0.4
Palm m100 PDA
Belkin USB PDA adapter (documentation indicates it should work with Mac OS 8.6 or above and m100s)

Problem: I cannot HotSync. Period. I have tried checking the connections for tightness, plugging the USB connection into 1) a USB port in the iMac itself; 2) a powered USB hub and 3) a USB port on the keyboard (which I would prefer to use for space reasons). No matter what, I cannot get a connection established.

Question 1: Is there a particular screen I should be looking at when trying to Hot Sync (after Hot Sync Manager is opened, I assume)?

Question 2: I had to install the Belkin USB PDA Adapter extension; should I leave all other Palm USB extensions active?

Question 3: Which serial port should I be using (selected under Local Settings in the Hot Sync Software Setup): PalmConnect USB or Serial On USB?

Any help would be appreciated. . .my thanks in advance

Open your HotSync Manager and click the tab for Serial Port Settings. Here's a screen shot of mine:

I use the Palm Connection Kit for USB and accompanying software. Make sure the connections on your Mac match those on your Palm. If you open the HotSync Manager on your Palm, tap the Menu icon, then Connection Setup. You want Direct to Serial. For some reason Palms default to Modem for connection setup. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help. I was able to establish a connection, but got a dialog box on the Palm indicating the connection had been lost.

In checking the Palm instruction manual under troubleshooting, I saw "Make sure you selected the user name that matches your handheld." Well, my user name is entered on my Mac, but not in my handheld. . .and I have no idea how to do so. Suggestions?

Thansk again. . .Don

If I remember correctly the first time you sync you'll get a pop up box on the Mac that ask you to select the user for the Palm. Did you ever get that?

To set the username on your Palm, go to Preferences and then Owner. Your name must be entered exactly as it is on your Mac.

OK, my user name is now entered (and, no, I never got a dialog box to pop up asking for the user name). I get a connection, but the Palm screen reads "identifying user" -- and never gets any further.

AARRGH!

Last Spring, when it was apparent there were hotsynch problems with OS 9.0.4, Palm posted a fix at their website. Do you have this? It solved my hotsynch probs.
Good luck!

I had problems with my Palm IIIc just like yours, all connections were correct, but the palm could not see the desktop no matter how hard I prayed, nor how many goats I sacrificed.

I was finally getting frustrated, so I grabbed the Palm and did a soft reset (pushing the reset button once on the back), after that, it all worked like a charm and has ever since.

Weird!

Hi,
I set up my mom's ibook with the PalmConnect USB kit. I had similar problems in hot syncing for the first time. It was quite unnerving. If the above doesn't work, look here:
http://www.palm.com/support/accessor...acusbhelp.html

It will tell you about disabling hotsync, and unplugging the USB connection, then reinserting it, and reenabling the hotsync feature.

hope it helps.

Brian
