I want to convert a fairly large text file to a format that I can read on my Palm. When I tried to drag the txt file onto the Install Files window, it just spit it back at me. Any suggestions?

You need a third party application for converting and then viewing documents. I use DataViz's Documents To Go Pro Ed. Real easy to convert and keep your docs updated.

A free, easy way is to simply copy the text and paste it as a note for the Palm's memo application. Then when you sync, it'll be in your memo pad (note that you may have to break up the document into a couple of parts because each individual memo has a certain size limit).

i think the memo limit is a pitiful 4k,
if you could put up with the hassle of pasting chunks into memo pad (on the desktop), and then pasting the chunks from memopad(on the palm) into an app like QED (on the palm) http://www.visionary2000.com/qed/ (use the demo or free version it has a nag but works fine) and the next hotsync you'll get a .pdb file in your backup folder.

i don't really have that much of a problem with importing text to
my visor, it's just i can't find any, if they work, mac-palm apps.
i tried www.palmtracker.com

and
handspring and palm's sites.

is there any other palm/mac-only sites out there?

To convert txt to doc format you can just drop it onto an
open PalmBuddy window (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/fpillet/) where it
will be converted to doc format and transferred to your Palm all in one go. Or use Mac Palm Doc from http://www.plumisland.com/.

I think iSilo would do such a conversion as well.

DocsToGo will certainly do the job but it is designed to convert Word
and Excel docs to Palm readable format and you have to pay for all those extra features. So, unless money is no object, I would regard it as overkill.

I assume any of the doc editors like Qed or Wordsmith will also convert text to Doc format.

There is mine which has not been kept up todate:
http://www.adelaide.net.au/~mmurray/palm.html

or better there is Palmac
http://home.wi.rr.com/palmac/palmac.html

There is also an active Palmac email list running out
of www.topica.com.
