Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to sync my Visor Deluxe to a Newton? I have the eMate 300, and I'm looking to get a 2000 or 2100 as well. I don't want to have to double-enter stuff, but I would like to keep them synced together.

The data that is important to me is the Names / Addresses, then the Dates, and finaly the ToDos, in that order.

Currently I take both my iBook and Visor to work, but I can see days when the eMate could do both jobs. And times when a 2000 / 2100 would be all I'd ever need.

I'm currently syncing the Visor to an iMac, and I have the Newton Connection Utilities on my iBook.

Thanks!

When you sync the Visor with Palm Desktop, those files should also sync with any Newton/eMate files. I use Claris Organizer to sync my Newton uMP2000 (Palm Desktop's predecessor). NCU will give you an option to sync the Newton and this should read off of Palm Desktop. I think the first time I did it it asked me to create a file, but if you already have one, it might not. To ensure compatiblity, you might want to make sure the user names are the same on all.

I gave that a try, the Newton Connection Utilities recognizes the Palm user file, as a Claris 2.0 file. However, when I try to syncrhonize it gives me an error that the f ile is unusable.

I am using version 1.0 of the NCU, and the palm desktop is what came on the Visor CD. I have heard that there is a more recent version of NCU, like a version 2.0? Perhaps I need to upgrade NCU to get it to work?

p.s. I have ensured that both Visor and Newton have the same user name on them.

Hmmm. . . I don't think there is any newer version of NCU out there. I have version 1.0 and I think that came off of a 2100 CD, so that would probably be the last release.

There is something you can do about the contacts, though, but it would probably take a long time. You can install Organizer, sync the files, and export them. Then you can import them into Palm Desktop and match them up. I'm not sure how to go about eliminating overlap or making sure the most recent is the one that's kept. And it probably won't work for dates and to-dos. Some people have success syncing their Newtons with Entourage and I know that syncs just fine with Palm devices, so if you have access to that, that might work out.

BTW, do you receive the NewtonTalk mailing list or digest? If you do, you might want to post this problem there. Lots of people sync their Newtons with Entourage and Desktop.

I've installed the Claris Organizer, and tried loading the user file from Palm desktop into it. It gives me an error, that the file is from a 'newer version of Organizer', so maybe that is the problem? Perhaps the Palm Desktop that ships with the Visor is not fully compatible.

I will try just exporting the data from Palm, then importing into Claris and make a user file that way.

Thanks for the help!

p.s. I did subscribe to Newton Talk, but other than a 'welcome...' email, I haven't received anything. I saw an earlier post that it might be down, so I was just waiting to see what happened with it.

NewtonTalk has been down now and again, but it appears to be working now. Did you sign up for the digest or the regular list? Either way, you might want to try signing up again.

Do you know where I can find info on syncing the Newton and Entourage? I have been looking for weeks for a way to do this with no luck. -Chris
