I am going to buy a PDA, I don't have one now.
I don't know which one is worth to have.
Sony CLIE or Palm m505?
Both of them are color PDA and has memory card slot.
Which one do you think is better for first time user?

"By far"?? Based on what? The original Sony was an improvement on the older Palms and this one appears to be yet another (big) step forward. The new Palms are a minor revision to the V series with yet another non-standard expansion format.

I think the Sony is "by far" the better deal.

Plus, the new color Sony has 320 X 320 screen resolution where the Palm is stuck at 160 X 160. Check out the Clie.

True about the Sony being 320x320. Thats a big difference. I think the Sony is a bit thicker than the m505, but it does have a built in mp3 player and that cool jog dial. The form factor on the m505 is the slickest, I think. If you do go for the m505, I have read that units made in Hungary have a much dimmer screen than the same units made in the US. Make sure you get a US one.
I'm going to wait for my Apple branded PDA at July Macworld with 65,000 colors, 320x320 resolution, USB, mp3, Palm OS AND BUILT IN VOICE RECORDING!! Why hasn't anyone done the built in voice recording?? What could be more useful (and safer) when your in the car?

Is it really that Apple will have its own PDA?

65,000 colors, 320x320 resolution, USB, mp3, Palm OS AND BUILT IN VOICE RECORDING!

If this is true, I must wait until July Macworld.

At this point, anything is possible.... There is so much speculation about what Apple is going to do, and as many other have said before, you never really know until it happens...
Both the M505 and the Color Clie have their pros and cons... it jsut depends on what you need more... small size (m505), native Mp3 playing ability (Clie), bigger screen (Clie), Palm OS 4.0 w/support for thousands of colors (m505 - the Clie is currently at 256 colors due to Palm OS 3.5), and the list can go on and on....
I think in terms of ease of use for a first time user, they should be equally easy to use because they both use the Palm OS....
good luck,
dave

At this moment, I will wait until Macworld.
It is coming soon.
If Apple has its own PDA, and it is better than m505/CLIE, I will buy it.
Let's see what will come out at Macworld!

I like Clié and I would have gotten it but few things are very annoying:

1. the screen is very spongy and it is quite difficult to write on the gravity area.

2. Damn thick. It's good looking and polivalent but its thickness is rather deceiving compared to Palm

3. No Mac support

4. MP3 isn't really MP3 - this one, I am not very sure - I think it uses the same format as Sony MP3 Player that is not MP3 but the format for Minidiscs. That means on Mac, you can't use its MP3 capability

5. Expensive

6. Memory stick is too damn expensive

7. Beautiful screen but with only few software supporting it.

8. Not many accessories.

9. Money/Value: Go for an iPaq(since you have to use VPC to use MP3, you might as well go for PocketPC)

10. I like Palm. And you?

I forgot to add in my previous post, the best thing about the Palm is that it has native support for the Mac, whereas the Sony Clie needs the handago conduit (which I could never get to work on my older CLie, so I ended up returning it.... I'm sure others have had different experiences, but for me, compatability is the biggest thing (which would be great if Apple came out with their own PDA

Well,

I just picked up a clie 710C and it's pretty slick. the screen dumps on the palm and the visor. I've owned both palms and handspring units and they're nice but this screen is great.

The jog dial is a nice feature and makes using the unit more convenient.

the memory sticks are on par with the other memory storage devices used my palm and pPC and will get cheaper as time goes on.(BTW Moto has incorporated the sony memory stick protocols into its next pda chipset for the palm)

The macpack for clie is a bummer (mac syncing should be standard) but it works great and you can always sync via IR if you have a laptop (I've dont that too and it works fine).

I also find the thickness of the clie to be nicer. It's easier to hold.

My $0.02

Good luck

Some nice modules comming our way for the MS slot too.
