I have just upgraded to the Palm Desktop/hotsync 2.6.3 on my iMac 333 with usb-kit, and now whenever I try to hotsync my Palm V with PalmOS 3.5, it tries to reinstall all that is in the backup folder (and I have checked that the conduit setting for backup is to backup - and not to restore from backup). When this has been done (both if I let it install or cancel it), it requires a restart (button on silkscreen), and then it syncs w/o problems. Then, when my mac has been restarted, it does it again.
Any suggestions on how to solve this problem? (I have tried to reinstall 2.6.1 but then get an error when trying to hotsync, so I have installed 2.6.3 again.).
Couldn't get help on Palm
TIA,
Peter

Try this:
BACK UP YOUR USER FOLDER IN "USERS" FOLDER IN "PALM" FOLDER. Make a duplicate and drag it to Desktop.
Delete contents of "Backups" folder in ORIGINAL "Palm" folder.
Try syncing.
If it still doesn't work, try it again and delete User Data and User Data archive as well.
As another option, you might just set all the conduits to Handheld overwrites Mac and Do Nothing (as avaialble). Do this if all data on your Palm is now exactly as you want it.
As long as you have that backup folder on your Desktop, you can always get back to where you are now by putting it back in "Users" folder (remove "copy" from name) and deleting the original. Then sync w/ Mac overwrites Handheld.

Removing all from backup folder does the trick, but the problem then reappear next time I want to sync - and I would prefer not to be forced to do this every time.
But thanks for the suggestions!

The trick is to start from scratch.
Empty Backup Folder.
Do a hot sync OVERWRITING one platform to the other as follows:
Do a hard reset on Palm to completely erase all info.
Delete any remaining unwanted apps from Palm.
Set conduits to "Mac Overwrites Handheld" or "Do Nothing" (as available). Do NOT make this "Default".
This will write all data from Mac to Palm and nothing from Palm to Mac.
BEFORE DOING THIS MAKE A DUPLICATE OF YOUR USERS FOLDER IN PALM FOLDER.

I'm running DK 9.1 and Palm OS 3.5.2
As for the completely overwrite trick - I'll try it in the weekend. Haven't got the nerves to do it during the week ;-)
Thanks!

This really sounds more odious than it actually is. If you want more detailed instructions or additional info, email me. I could probably break it down further.

I tried it in the weekend (involuntarily - it crashed). I reinstalled all from scratch, overwrote from mac. Alas, it stills behave strangely in the way of wanting to reinstall from backup every first time a day I try to hotsync (meaning that, if I have hotsync'ed once that day (and overruled the backup-urge it has) it sync's fine the rest of the day - even if I reboot the computer?!).
I've begun to think of my Palm as a sort of Tamagotchi, the way it craves constant attention & care ;-)
Thanks!
Peter

Did you Hard-Reset the Palm to delete all 3rd party apps?
