I'm looking into buying a PalmOS PDA. I had chosen the Visor Platinum, but I have now discovered the Palm m500 and the new Handera. I require a PDA with expansion, and low price and fast processor are big plusses. Can anyone advise as to a good choice? Thanks in advance!

Why not get the Handspring? It's got everything you are looking for... I think that it's going to take quite a while to see the add-in stuff for the new Palm 500 series... Remember when Handspring came out and there was that Springboard Slot and not Springboards? Now you can get pretty much anything you ever dreamed of to snap into that little slot...

I cannot recommend the Handspring enough and have turned many people to it who would be your run of the mill Palm users...

even i, a newton user, am liking the specs of the new handera device...
a 320x240 screen and soft graffiti area are a real attraction... of course its only a palm, but its cool for a palm.

*PDA Newbie Alert*

I'm looking into buying a new PDA and am wondering about either the Palm 500 or the Newton 2100...What are the benefits and drawbacks of each?

I work in the IS department of a major telecommunications company and would need something that can easily transfer information to others' computers and PDAs and to my Rev B iMac. On my iMac I have both IrDA and Serial ports. Could the Newton sync via these ports?

I own a Newton 2100 and I have to say that it is amazing. If you want to sync it with your iMac and you have a serial connection, you are living the good life. The Newton syncs well with serial ports and is compatible with the new Palm Desktop software. For talking to other PDAs (i.e. Palms), there is an extension you can download for free that will enable that.

For syncing with other computers, the Newton can do Windoze serial transfers as well (given the correct cable and software -- but how is that different from any other PDA?).

The Newton 2100 itself is a marvel to behold. It is really more a miniature computer than a PDA. The HWR is the best out there (beats the pants off Graffiti) and the speed is amazing (162 MHz). It does spreadsheets, word processing, database, email, web browsing, and on and on. With the keyboard, it becomes a small laptop, with PC cards available for modem and ethernet connections. I really can't say too many good things about the Newton!

Palm=10% computer/90% organizer, lots of new software, minimized web/email stuff.
Newton 2100=90% computer/10%organizer, lots of usable software, regular web/email stuff.

What you need is what matters. BTW, I don't have a Palm/Handspring or WinCE.
