I have a Newton MessagePad 2100 and recently ran into a problem when trying to backup to my Mac. The backup would not complete, saying the desktop had disconnected. After some experimentation, it appears the actual problem is in my Notes data, because the backup will proceed and finish, if I de-select (only) Notes. I was able to successfully export the text of the Notes to an RTF file, but I have a good number of graphic Notes.

Does anyone know of any utilities to check for and repair corruption of the Notes data soup? I have run NamesFixer to make sure my Names data is OK. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

I too, have had serious problems exporting notes and I don't think it's a matter of a fix, but something with the Mac OS itselt. What version are you running? I've had the problem from 9.0 to 9.2.1
I'm from halo-world.com, but it's gone now...

I am having the problems on 9.2.1 and 8.6. 8.6 had worked for me in the past, and I don't think anything has changed sinces then. I am afraid I have some data corruption on the Newton side that is confusing the process.

I was finally able to export each of the main Newton apps to separate Claris Organizer (Palm Desktop) files. I merged these together and cleaned them up a bit. Then, I sync'ed with my Handspring.

So far, so good. I really hate setting aside the Newton. It is so elegant. But I cannot find a reliable sync tool for windoze Outlook 2000.

Thanks.

Sounds like you added something that alters the notepad. Do you get a (-1) connection error? Sometimes sketches in notes causes the error. HTH! BTW, look thru google.com for a 'special' version of Lookout, sync. for Outlook... ;-)
