So my brother went to College on Tuesday giving me my iMac G4 back. So I finally decided to do what I wanted to for ages. Open it up and look around...

Thanks. I can't decide if I should get 24" imac + pallets monitor or 20" imac and 23" monitor.

I don't really need all the extra power of the 24" imac.

You need to host the image somewhere like Flickr or Photobucket, find the URL for the picture, and click the "Insert Image" button on your post to paste in the URL.

Sold my PowerMac on ebay and got a 20" iMac. The laptop is what I have to use for work...

I also got a used Intel-based Mac mini from a friend and combined it with the 20" ACD (now wall-mounted) left over from the PowerMac. Installed it in the loggia next to the kitchen. This machine is primarly used for music and TV.

Current set up, monitor on the right is on a fantastic swing arm which allows me to rotate between portrait and landscape and also hover a foot further forward so i can sit right against it for playing my xbox on it. Also sound runs through the stereo you see in the top left with the speakers suspended from the corners of the room

I use the Apple DVI to ADC Adapter.

I've had the adapter for a few years. I was using it with my MacBook previously.

I just picked up a 15 incher. I opened her up to put in a 512 MB DIMM (easy) and swap out the hard drive (not so easy). Look at the dust on that memory. Yuck.

P.S. The power cable seems a little worn. I looked around to see the Mac guys selling it for $20-30.

Then I found out it's the same thing as some laptop power brick cords, and costs all of $2 online (if you don't mind getting it in black).

Amazing, could this have been an unknown flaw of that model? How did it suck so much dust into the dome? The fan on top must have blown out the top but pulled it in through the bottom. Years of constant running builds up a lot of dust. I haven't seen that much dust since I used a PC. Nor have I seen that much dust in any of my Macs, including ones I bought off eBay that had been used for years and never were opened.

why do you have both the bx8a and the bx5? To hear the difference of a system with more bass compared to one with little?

also, is that some kind of midi marimba?

Have you ever opened an iMac G4? I hadn't until this one, but that dust buildup was pretty much what I was expecting, once I found out that air was drawn in from below, and blown out the top. There are small vents all around the edge of the base of the unit. There exhaust vents are around the monitor arm at the top of the dome.

P.S. I just saw an ad for an inexpensive iMac G5 locally, but I just couldn't get myself to spring for it. It's MUCH faster than the iMac G4 - no comparison - but it's still way, way slower than the Intel machines, yet not as quiet as the Intel machines. So, I figure if you're going to go with the flat panel pizza box iMac, you may want to strongly consider getting the Intel iMac (esp. given some of the software requirements these days), but if you want a lasting aesthetic design, go for the iMac G4. (Oh and I currently own an iMac G4 and an Intel iMac, and have owned an iMac G5 in the past.)

I have both for simply variety of listening references. Checking mixes on different systems is very important. The Bx5s are high in midrange and neither (being flat response) have much bass. I think for the money anyway, the Bx8as are pretty great monitors. (which are what I use about 95% of the time) The best recordings I've ever put out I actually mixed them while sitting in my car over it's stock system. If it sounds good there, it sounds good anywhere. Too cold to do that this time of year
