I've forgotten how to fix the over-magnified screen so the desktop display is normal (not cut off on the left side). Please advise.

Option+Command+minus key

Option+Command+8 to turn zoom on and off.

Your suggestions operate as indicated. However, the screen is still lopsided (e.g., the apple icon at the top of the screen is now out of sight to the left. ????

Are you sure you're zoomed out all the way?

Are you on a CRT monitor? If so it sounds like the screen needs adjusting, rather than anything on your Mac.
