Hi
A really dumb question.
How do I connect my newish (2007) iMac to my brand new TV (Panasonic).
I want to watch movies fed through or stored on my Mac, plus streamed TV (BBC iPlayer, etc) to the tv--picture and sound.
Which port, what cables?
Thanks
RB

Your TV should have a menu with assigned ports. For example, with my tv there is an input button. When I push the input button it shows me the different electronics connected. When I push it once, the dvd appears. If I push it twice the Wii shows, etc.... So I am able to switch between them. You need to try this.
Also, connect your cable from the Mac to a USB to serial converter and plug it into the input connections on the television.
This should work just fine....especially if you have a new tv. It is pretty self-explanatory.
Let me know if you have any further problems.

mini-DVI to DVI converter from Apple, then from that DVI to either DVI on the TV or to HDMI with a regular cable. Audio is usually just a miniplug at either end.

Hi guys!
Thanks for your sugestions.
I finally went the miniDVI-HDMI adaptor + HDMI route (after sorting out confusion, returns, etc., over Mini DisplayPort adapter, etc. My supplier tells me confusion over miniDVI and Mini Displayport is widespread.). Hence my delay in saying thanks.
Now I can get my iMac Screen mirrored on my Panasonic TV--great for watching movies since it is bigger and brighter.
BUT: Sound
I have several ways of accessing.
1. Computer speaker sound--poor quality.
2. Via Wireless headphones--great but headphones!
3. Minijack from TV to TV stereo. Poorish (tv speakers) but better if I then plug wireless headphones in to tv headphones minijack
BUT: TV gives me the option of "PC"--when I get iMac sound, via tv speakers or headphones. BUT no mirrored iMac pic
OR: HDMI: when I get iMac pic but no sound--unless I pull out stereo cable--then poor iMac sound; or plug headphone minijack into iMac, when I get decent sound via computer headphones and pix via tv.
I this making sense?
Is there any way to get pix and sound originating on iMac onto TV simultaneously?
Thanks
RB

Usually PC sound is combined with video from the VGA port on the input "PC", while HDMI is expected to get audio in the same port. There is usually some sort of setting to combine HDMI with PC sound, though, but it depends on the TV.

Thanks P
My iMac is pretty recent--2007, with the aluminium facial, tho maybe now second generation considering the problems with the miniDVI v Mini DisplayPort. TV is bang up to date, latest Panasonic Viera (highly recommended) 26in LCD.
I'm no tekkie but I'm pretty inventive, so I've tried everything. HDMI input on the TV produces pix but no sound, PC gives sound but no pix. I've emailed Panasonic support. Let you all know if they report back.
Can't be just me, can it?

Hi Again
Well, it was me--sort of.
In one last sweep I tried the TV sound panel again. Now, since connecting the HDMI cable it offers digital (the preset) or analogue. I switched to analogue. Sound came through to the TV!
On the other hand, when I turned on iTunes and switched between HDMI (analogue) and PC (digital) on the TV, the sound seemed a bit better on the presumably digital PC channel.
I am sure there is a full technological explanation of this somewhere. Perhaps Panasonic will supply it.
I hope my little techno misadventure will help someone else.
