A "regular monitor" which I believe you mean as a CRT or non flat panel uses VGA.
A studio display 17" can be one of three things:
Oldest model(s) - VGA CRT in an Apple blueberry (for Blue and White) or graphic enclosure. 16.1" viewable 17" Diamondtron 1600x1200 resolution
Last CRT - ADC CRT (only ADC CRT made) with built in USB, and using an ADC cable with USB, power, and analog video going through one cable It's in a clear enclosure (this is the monitor I'm trying to sell) 16.1" viewable 17" flat (not flat panel, just the screen isn't curved) Diamondtron 1600x1200 resolution
Current - ADC LCD (USB, power, and digital video through one cable) with USB Samsung 1280x1024 17" viewable LCD
