A disabled writer needs to replace his ailing Apple 6500.
Richard L. Sartore suffers from a form of Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) which has left him paralyzed from the neck down. Richard is housebound and depends on his computer a great deal; it has become his means to stay in touch with the outside world. Since he is a writer (a struggling one, of course), he uses a head mouse to type and spends about 8 hours a day on the computer. His present Apple 6500 has developed numerous problems and has become unreliable. Computer problems drive able bodied people crazy, so you can imagine how frustrating it is to a disabled person who cannot use his hands.
Richard cannot afford at this time to replace his computer and so far, he has found no source of help from any government agencies. He contacted my organization, Ride for Life (
www.rideforlife.com),which helps people living with ALS, and asked if we could help him get another computer.
So I'm now reaching out to the Mac community to see if anyone has an old Mac they can donate to Richard.
If you think you can be of help, please drop me a note at
