99% of the time that screen appears saying the item is no longer valid, it's b/c it was a scam. Thank God you didn't send the money for that.
Make *sure* you view a seller's feedback and analyze it thoroughly; unfortunately enough, a large percentage of eBay scammers deal in the Mac catagory as there's such huge profits in doing so.

Oh please...
The seller might've just sold it to someone who gave him a good enough offer and then cancelled the listing.

I doubt that it was a scam: feedback.
blumnday99's feedbacks go back to June of 1999.

Typically when a seller cancels an auction for the reason of he's sold it either locally or took some other offer, he'll just use eBay's process of cancelling an auction while including a standardized line at the bottom of the auction saying something about Auction Closed due to Item Already Being Sold or something like that. I've never seen what happened to that page happen simply from a seller cancelling their own auction.

That doesn't matter. He might have received an offer, cancelled all of the bids and deleted the auction from existence. A lot of people don't like paying eBay's end-of-auction fee in situations like that.
In either case, always make sure to check the seller's feedbacks, see who they came from, and if possible talk to the seller, especially if you're buying an expensive item. You HAVE to be careful trading, especially on eBay.

No, no...you may not have done this process before, but I have. You simply cancel ALL bids, so there's NO final listing fee, and then close the auction. It then appears with "This Auction Is Over..." and a little message at the bottom stating that it's already been sold. I've never seen it possible for an eBay *user* to be able to make their item have that description, I've only seen it happen w/ admins cancel auctions or the auction expires from eBay's database of archived auctions.
