All,

I'm a student at a University and I'm working on a project for a non-profit organization (it's a registered 501(c)3 organization). The group has a notebook that was donated to them for me to use, but it's unusable (PC, somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 MHz, power management no longer worked, even with a new battery, no PCMCIA (!) or modem).

So I'm now trying to find a PowerBook G3 or G4 in usable (good?) condition that I can use for this project. The organization does civil rights-related advocacy and support work. The project, in particular, will deal with advances made in international civil rights. I will be traveling quite a bit, and will need to use the computer from various locations (power/battery, ethernet, modem are important, as a result).

The donation be made to the organization, and they would provide a letter of receipt. This could then be used for a tax write-off for an in-kind donation. (You should talk with your tax preparer for more information on a write-off, as I'm not a tax expert.) Of course, there's also the warm fuzzy feeling for doing something good for the world... And lots of good karma.

Anyway, if you think this is a possibility, please let me know. You can email me at jrdeal@marshall.edu if you have any questions (or would like more details on the project, the organization, or me).

Thanks so much,

Justen Deal

(P.S. I have tried both the local "reseller" and Apple. The reseller does not really sell Apple products anymore, they only do catalogue orders or repairs, and they said they're really not in a financial condition to be making donations (but they are open to getting them!). Apple does not accept outside solicitations for corporate contributions.)

Just curious but what's the name of the charity and what do they do. I'm sure there are hundreds of charitys that fit undet the civil rights umbrella.
