Can someone pull me up if what I'm asking is an unfair trade, but here goes...
I have a PowerMac 7300/225 (3rd party 604e upgrade card with lots of DIP switches) with 192mb ram, 2x 4gb hard drives and a 12x cd rom. the VRAM is also maxed out. I'm looking to trade with someone in Australia for a newton 2100. Is this possible? email or IM me at xyde@mac.com if possible, or reply in thread, rules permitting.
thanks.
Ben.

I can tell you that an MP 2x00 is indeed a wonderful machine to have and use (daily). On the flip side, it is rather old and not officially supported by anyone beyond the Newton community (which is still quite strong). If you're planning on using it for work and want it to sync with a modern email system...don't get your hopes up. This is just one of many frustrations you'll face in getting a Newt to play nicely in a modern workplace.
OTOH, if you plan on using it to manage your personal info and have a 9.x machine (or Classic on X) to sync it with then there really isn't anything better for the price.
The 'ol 2x00s are real head turners and geeks of all persuasions will ask you about it. It's kinda fun to tell them that I don't have to learn Grafitti (sp?) and that my usable screen space is larger than their entire device
IMO if the 7300 is a spare machine and international shipping charges aren't hellacious, then it's probably not a bad trade...but make sure to ask about any peripherals: keyboard/serial dongle, ethernet card, modem card, extra stylii, carying case, extra batteries, storage cards, etc. And make sure the unit is in good to very good condition...it should have all the doors/panel covers and no serious scratches on the screen. Everything listed above is rather pricey to add or replace and it's best to get what you can in a package deal.
Whew...finished my novel. I hope I've been of some help. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your help, I'd rather not ship international if possible, although I will if no aussie buyers would be willing - and yeah I know how old they are but I have this old apple hardware fetish, you see

I just re-read you original post...the first time through it sounded like you already had a deal lined up with someone from Australia (not realizing that you're also from Australia...thus the mention of Int'l shipping) and was wondering if the Newt was worth trading your 7300 for. I now fully understand your question and apologize for telling you things you already know (or didn't need to hear)...I hate it when that happens to me :/
Sorry 'bout that.
