Does anyone know the reputation of Jason Pitcock of BTS electronics. He sold a ton of Mac stuff on eBay and now on Yahoo. Lot's of good reviews, but with the hacking scandals that are going on, I suppose someone could now hack into their own account and give themselves good feedback. I am just a little paranoid in light of the recent surge in Mac related scams.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Does he have many good evals on eBay? Also, is BTS a regular store or just an ebay merchant?

When shopping around, it's generally a good idea to check out resellerratings, but there is no entry for this merchant there.

In my opinion, I WOULDN'T DO IT. I ordered a 17inch powerbook, waited 34 days for it to ship (he promised it would be shipped in 29). So I cancelled my order and I asked for a refund that came late (FTC regulations say within 10 business days...it took 14 days.). The auction promised a 103% refund but I didn't receive that (and still haven't even though he claims to have sent it). In my opinion, I wouldn't do business with him again.

He has gotten a lot of positive feedback in both eBay and Yahoo, but there is a recent rash in hacking, and I have this paranoia that someone could hack their own account and make "fake" feedback. People will resort to anything these days.

To answer the first reply: thanks for the reply; I think it is simply an internet-style merchant. I searched the Net, too.

To the second reply: sorry about the bad experience, but the fact that he sent any money back makes me think that he is not scamming people out of cash? Would you agree?

I know that there are ways to erase bad feedbacks on ebay (this involves paying a fee, though), but I think that someone would have a hard time hacking ebay and adding positive feedbacks. If he has many recent positive feedbacks, you may want to contact the other party and ask them about their experience. I don't know what to tell you. I buy very few things on ebay anymore. Especially high-end items... They are usually stolen and don't come with warranty, etc. If you find a seller who's in your vicinity, ask if you can pick the product up upon purchasing it. IMHO, there are just too damned many dealers on ebay and especially on yahoo (yahoo for a very very long time already). Where are all the regular people who are just selling their stuff? Of course, that would also mean that you wouldn't be able to find brand new high-end items...

Bottom line: I don't know this guy, but be very careful with anyone on ebay. Test their responsiveness via email prior to purchasing anything, and ask for a phone number and try calling. All those things can reassure you.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Could it be that he made the refund because I reported him to the FTC and US Postal Service Inspectors... I for one will be very cautious with who I deal with on ebay. AND, I don't think I'll be signing up for any more "presale" auctions. Do yourself a favor and do a search of all forums for bts electronics and see all the comments other forum members have...
