The Ultimate Pismo PowerBook

You may have seen my PowerBook Sapphire on Applefritter.com. It pains me to do so, but now that I have my 12" PowerBook I find that I use my Pismo very little, and I think it would be better to sell it to someone who might be able to make use of it. I have decided to offer it to MacNNers before trying eBay, because I'm a little sick of problems with fraud and so forth that have been occuring on the online auctions.

Includes:
PowerPC G4 500mhz
512 MB RAM
48GB Internal HD + empty Expansion Bay HD
Combo Drive (DVD CD-R/W)
Expansion Bay ZIP Drive
Airport Card
2 Batteries + AC Adapter
Custom paint-job
Custom case

This is a Pismo Powerbook G3 (2000 model) that has been upgraded to a 500mhz G4 (upgrade by NewerTech).

Included is 512MB of RAM (one 512MB chip in the bottom slot--that makes it easy to upgrade if you care to. Just add another chip the top slot.) Also included is an Airport Card and a 5400rpm 48GB IBM Travelstar Drive. In addition, I will be including an empty expansion bay hard disk that you can fill with any 2.5" hard disk.

The standard DVD-ROM drive has been replaced with a Matsushita UJDA710 combo drive (reads DVDs, writes CD-R at 8X and CD-RW at 4X). The drive will work without drivers using Toast and I can provide the neccessary files required for iTunes and Finder CD burning.

I will also include 2 batteries. I have had these for a while, and so they probably won't last as long as when they were new, but I think they still give you around 2 hours of use each with the screen dimmed.

In addition, I have painted the case of the powerbook with a metallic blue paint, making it the most unique Powerbook you are likely to find, anywhere. The Apple logo on the top cover has been changed to a blue one, as has the one at the top of the LCD screen (the logo on the bottom can't be changed, but it can't usually be seen anyway). I originally had a clear blue KeyBORG keyboard with no markings on it installed on this machine (see here for pictures), and I can reinstall it if the buyer wants, or just throw in the keyboard by itself. I think the blue keyboard's capslock key is a little loose however. Also note that although there is blue paint on the trackpad button in the Applefritter pictures, I removed that a long time ago.

I will also include a custom case made especially for the Powerbook G3 and sold only in Japan. It is made from a neoprene-like material and can act like a "wetsuit" that can remain attached to the computer at all times. It also includes a plastic window in the side designed to show off the Apple logo.

The screen has no dead or stuck pixels. There are some scuffs and scratches on the case, but nothing too major. It's been well used, but never abused. There is a small crack on the right cover (see here ). Although the rubber feet are missing in the picture, I have had them replaced.

I will put of fresh install of Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and Mac OS 9.2 on it before sending it to the buyer. I will send the computer in its original box. Shipping costs will depend on the shipping method that the buyer chooses. I must receive payment by cashier's check or money order before sending the computer (no personal checks please).

I am asking $1,250 for this, which I think is a fair price, considering the specs, accessories, and the uniqueness of the paintjob, etc. Email me at icruise1@yahoo.com if you are interested. I'm not really interested in bargaining at the moment, so only contact me if you are willing to pay my asking price. Thanks.

Just bought a G4, so I'm out of the buyer's market, but I've got to say that's a really cool Pismo.

Good luck with your sale!

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Seriously, I'm just not using it like I used to, and I can't justify having around just because it's pretty. I hope somebody will give it a good home.
