I purchased a 12.1" Apple iBook 900MHz, combo drive, 40GB, 128MB of ram, and an Airport card about a week ago for school. I’m in over my head financially, and I’m not as comfortable as I would like with the OS as I would like. So, I’ve decided to sell the machine.

I’ve only taken the computer out of it’s packaging, turned it on to check for dead pixels (there are none), installed Safari, and that’s about it. For all intents and purposes, this machine is brand new. It has all of its cables, connectors, software CDs, everything still packaged up.

I also haven’t even called and registered this laptop. So, transferring ownership to you would be very simple.

Please email me or post here if you have any questions.

$1149 + shipping (FedEx or USPS). I would prefer a Money Order or Personal Check rather than Paypal, since Paypal's fees on a transaction this large would be prohibitive.

I haven’t traded here before, but I have all positive references at beerology.com and heatware.com under the user name ‘mrpi.’

I curious how much paypal would charge to handle this. On eBay all sorts of higher priced items are for sale with paypal as the preferred method.

Since your new to this forum, what type of information would you provide to allay any misgivings about the transaction.

That's a very good question, I'd rather put people at ease about my reputation rather than push away possible buyers.

Paypal would be about $40 as I recall from doing the math. If someone was worried and requested we deal through Paypal I can do that.

I'm an established seller over at ArsTechnica.com. You can look up my posts there under both 'Fnyar' and my older user name 'mrpi.' And, again, my references at both beerology and heatware under 'mrpi' speak for themselves I think. Also, I'm available via email and if someone wanted to talk via IM I can do that as well.

I'm truly an honest trader. It was suggested that I come here and try to sell this iBook.

Fnyar, please tell us where you live. Someone might be close enough to do an in-person transaction.

Oh, and is it a 12" or a 14"? I have to assume from your asking price that it's a 14" since refurbished 12" iBooks are at the Apple store for $1149. Am I right?

This is a 12.1" - I've editied the thread to indicate that, sorry.

Also, this machine is new, not refurbished. I also believe you would need to pay tax on an Apple online store purchase, so $1149 isn't so accurate, right?

Hi! Actually, many vendors are selling refurb. iBooks exactly spec'd as yours for $1,149 w/o sales tax. BackBeatMedia is actually selling this exact iBook *new* for that price w/o sales tax nor shipping.

Hmm, ok. Those listings don't include an Airport card though - unless I missed something?

Given that this is a new iBook, no dead pixeles, and an airport card, what then do you guess is a fair price for it? If some company is selling a new iBook without Airport for $1149 I guess my price is a little high.

Given the options I'd buy the computer at $1149 and pick up an 8 dollar airport card to make the total of $1229. It would be the comfort of buying it from a store.

Fnyar, i suggest you sell this laptop on ebay. You might be able to get your asking price there.

He meant $8"0" and forgot the zero.

And he's right, eBay's your best option.
