I could really use a PC for my assembly programming class.
I want to use Microsoft's Remote Desktop Client with my iMac so I don't have to have a separate big monitor for the Wintel box. This means the computer would have to be able to run Windows XP Pro (or a flavor of 2000) - though I can get a free copy of that from my college's Computer Science department (legitimately, no less!).
If anyone has any computer they think would work, please reply in this thread, private message or email me. I need it as quickly as possible since I'm enrolled in the class currently and won't need it beyond December 15, 2003, since the class will be over then.
To be honest, I'd like to spend very little money (starving college student here). I don't know what the oldest computer XP can run on, so if anyone knows that, please post it in here for the benefit of anyone willing to find an old PC box for me
Thank you very much in advance!

Hmm, I have an old Compaq with a 466MHz Athlon Duron processor and 96 MB of ram or so sitting around. Would you be interested in that?

I'm using RDC with my QS 933 and IBM Intellistation MPro (P3 500 Katmai, 256Mb, XP Pro) and performance is fairly decent. I bought the machine from pcsurplusonline.com for under $200 with shipping. It was worth every penny IMO.
Good luck!

Nice website jaisun, thanks for the link!
You've had good luck with purchasing there? No hidden charges, on-time shipping and everything? Somewhat quick shipping I hope, right?
These computers look like just what I need - a machine for under $100 with a Pentium 400 and 128 MB of RAM! Woohoo!

Sorry for the delayed reply...work has been a bit oppresive
Anyway, I've purchased from them several times and so has my father...nothing but good to say! Free shipping (fairly fast too), no hidden charges and the product is worth the green. My IBM was certainly used, but definitely not abused. Again, well worth every penny. I wouldn't hesitate to shop them again

I have a 1.2ghz Celeron 64kL1, 256k L2 cache (PIII Tualatin core) rig I might let go if you're interested.
Though it is only 100mhz fsb, it comes with 512mb PC133 ram, an Intel mobo (stability!), 52x LG CD-ROM, 8gb 5400rpm 2mb cache Seagate hdd, integrated Intel nic, audio, USB 1.1, 250w Allied Power supply all in a nice but cheaper case (with a 1"x1" Newegg sticker!).
Make an offer (including shipping).
Zimmerman
Here's a link to Intel's support page for the mobo:

Actually, thanks for the offer Zimmerman, but I think I'm going to just go ahead and build my own PC. Unless, of course, you'd like to sell that machine for, say, $75 or something
Thanks everyone,
Karl

Would you consider $100 shipped? I know I would.
You couldn't build this machine from parts for less than $150 after shipping costs etc, don't 'cha know? It's actually pretty -ok- in terms of speed. I used to have a GeForce2 Pro in it, but moved it to a new machine I built and this is all that is left of my very first PC (after having ONLY Macs all my life). I would use it to play UT and thats about it. 75-100fps. Multiplayer UT CTF... *Homer* hahlaghala...
I mentioned it's missing a floppy so there will be a hole in the front where it goes. Or I could include a bezel, but it didn't origionally come with that case and doesn't fit really well (though passable for a PeeCee case .)
