I'm going to college in less than a year, and as I'm not majoring in graphic design anymore, this PowerMac G4 1.42 DP/20" Display/expensive photo printer is severe overkill and wouldn't fit in my dorm room.

Ideally, I want to sell all three together and buy a new (or just really good) iMac, and a new iBook (I will never ever go back to Windows).

I bought the G4 last April, and it came defective from Apple. The local Apple dealer replaced both processors and it's been rock-solid and flawless since then. The G4 and the display are covered under AppleCare until 4/9/2006. The G4 would come with Apple Pro Speakers, the keyboard, and the mouse included in the original shipment.

What I want in the iMac is at least 1 GHz, 40+ gig HD, CD-R/DVD-R drive, 512 mb RAM..basically something that will get me through this year and through 4-5 years of college. I still want to do a little graphic work but nothing huge, and the computer would probably be used for typing papers, chatting, burning CDs, etc. I want about the same in the iBook, but maybe only 256 mb RAM. I've been a desktop kind of person my whole life, so just having an iBook would make me feel lost. If I can, I want to get enough for the G4/Display/Printer to be able to buy the iMac and the iBook with room to spare.

This could be totally unrealistic, but any helpful suggestions (i.e. what I need in the iMac/iBook, what to sell the G4/etc for, etc.) would be much appreciated. I'm also not fond of selling something this important and huge (seeing as shipping will probably be close to $100) on eBay, so I'm looking for another route for that.

Thanks much,
Heather E.

Depending on how much time you have in mind to sell this system, you may want to change your all in one package strategy. It'll be a lot harder to find a buyer who's looking for all of these items and is willing to pay more for all of them. What I'd do is price them independantly (albeit at a higher sum total) as well as have a -buy-them-all-together!!- deal that is a few hundred less or offers free shipping or something. Just a suggestion, disregard at will.

Which printer do you have?
Maybe list separate prices, and a package deal for everything.
Good luck.

I understand why selling all three separately would probably work better, but I am still using all three very frequently. I want to sell all three at once, ship them off, get the money, and then buy the iMac/iBook possibly same day, so I wouldn't be left without a decent computer for more than a week (hopefully). The "family" computer is a 6 y/o Gateway that goes at maybe 250 MHz and crashes every two minutes, I'd really rather not be downgraded to that machine for too long.

I customized the iMac and the iBook on Apple, and I'd need to get approximately $3,200 for the package to afford them both.

I'm pretty sure on eBay I could get at least that much (even if I sold all three in separate listings and had the auctions end on the same day), but I'm not a very active buyer/seller so I only have like 9 ratings, I'm not sure how many people would be comfortable bidding on something that expensive from someone w/ so few ratings.

Stinkysteve, I have the Canon S9000 Photo Printer, it retails at about $500 (well it did when I bought it, at the same time as the G4.).

Thanks for the info on the printer.
Right now I really want a portable, but I may buy a desktop system because of pricing... IM me before you resort to e-bay.
Thanks again.

If the price is right (probably not) I might be interested in the G4.
Dual 1.8 GHz G5
PB G4 1.67 GHz
