Hey guys.
For sale is my
PowerBook G3 ‘Pismo’ Series. The specifications on this unit are as follows:
-400Mhz PowerPC G3
-40GB 5400 RPM Toshiba with 16MB cache buffer.
-The maximum 1GB of RAM with two 512Mbs sticks. This much RAM is quite expensive right now.
-Toshiba SD-R2102 DVD/CD-RW Combo optical drive. This drive is the same drive that was in the iBook 500/600 series so you will never have to worry about compatability problems in future versions of OS X.
-Flawless 14.1” TFT Display. Not one scratch, not one keyboard mark, not one dead pixel.
-ATI Rage 128 Mobility with 8Mbs of RAM.
-Battery that still holds a 2.5-3 hours charge during normal computer useage.
-Built in 56k, 10/100, two FireWire ports, two USB ports, VGA out, S-Video out, audio-in and out, IrDA, one PC card slot.
-I'll throw in my trusty laptop case. It's a cheapie, so dont expect it to do much other than encase the PowerBook.
Now, for a few problems:
1) The hard drive crapped out on me about 4 months ago. After a day of being dead it came back to life and hasn’t been completely normal since. It makes a good amount of clicks during heavy use. I’m not sure how much longer it will last, but it has been hanging in there on an average of 10 hours of use everyday for the past four months. The drive was originally purchased from pbparts.com approximately 6 months ago and should still be under warranty. They –should- provide a replacement if you so desire, but I am not sure. I do not have the original recipt, but they should be able to verify that the drive was purchased from them by the serial number.
2) The audio-out jack is coming loose from the board. You have to hold down the plug of whatever you have plugged into it to get audio. Sound from the speakers in unaffected by this. This is probably fixable with a soldering iron or super glue, I have just been too lazy to do it. If for some reason it is not easily fixable with something around the house, the Pismo has a separate board that handles the audio functions. So you wont have to buy a whole new motherboard if you decide to fix the problem with cash instead if super glue.
3) The bezel on the optical drive is not the original. It doesn’t fill the whole bay of the Pismo. This does not effect the functioning of the drive though. You can see pictures below.
4) And while I’m at it: The unit has none of the four original rubber feet that were on it. But then again, most don’t. There is somebody on eBay who sells sets of 4 custom fitted Pismo feet for around $4 if you’d like to pick some up.
The unit will ship with the original Yo-Yo power adapter. No paperwork or Cds will be provided. I will, however, ship the unit with a fresh ready-to-register install of OS X Panther 10.3 so that you can play with the machine as soon as you receive it.
I am looking for $575. or best offer. I will cover shipping via FedEx/UPS to anywhere in the continental USA.
Here are some pictures of the unit.
