Could you give some details about the card?

-2x? 4x? 8x?
-How much VRAM?
-What kind of Macs will it work in?
-Been tested?
-What do you want to try and get for it?

Any other relevant technical details?

Sure,
it's a 2x AGP card with 32 MB VRAM. It's the original boxed retail Radeon Mac Edition. I did use it for about a year without problems on a G4 500. It should work on any Mac with an AGP slot.

Finally, I still see it being sold new for upwards of $160. So I think about $80 + shipping would be fair.

And again, I have the original manual, box and CD.

I'm considering it... how much of an improvement is it over the Rage Pro 128 16MBs? Have you noticed a speed difference?

Well, it does help being able to use quartz extreme, and it helped with Quake 3 and Age of Empires 2. But otherwise I'm not a big enough gamer to judge.

How much of a Finder improvement? Does the Finder lag at redrawing windows, etc?

Sorry I haven't posted... I lost the topic for a while.

Well don't be expecting miracles, but everything that Quartz Extreme can help is faster. I don't know how to measure the difference other than say that yes, things are improved. This is mainly an upgrade for people with older macs who want to get a little more life out of them. If you want more specifics I suggest you ask in the PowerMac forum.

Just to comment, I just upgraded from a Rage 128 to a Radeon in my dual 450 and the performance increase was huge. Not only do I get all the benefits of Quartz Extreme (super-smooth Expose, fading desktop backgrounds, spinning-cube user switching, etc), it also makes everything look "cleaner." I think the Radeon is better at anti-aliasing the minimized Expose windows, because the text was unreadable with the Rage 128 and very good-looking with the Radeon. Original Radeons aren't great for games, you'd want something much faster like a Radeon 8500 for that, but for general use in OS X they're fine.

I believe there are two versions - one that has a DVI and a VGA port, and the other which has an ADC and a VGA port. I'm pretty sure the ADC version was OEM-only (only bundled with Macs), while the DVI version was sold as a retail version. Mine happens to be a DVI version but it doesn't matter because I only use a VGA monitor anyway.

FYI, it's not the Radeons that go for $160 new, it's the Radeon 9000s on ATI's website. They are something like $160 or $170 for a brand new one. I don't want to thread-crap though.
