I am looking for some broken ipods. I am assuming that it is not under warranty or that the damage is not covered by the warranty, so I won't pay that much. How much I will pay depends on the nature of the problem; if it is smashed I won't give nearly as much as for one that just plan won't turn on but has no visible defects. I was thinking around $15 for a 1st generation, $20 for a 2nd and $30 for a 3rd, depending on the exact size, condition, etc. If you include the power adapter, cables, etc I might pay $10 more ($20 for working a 3rd generation cable set) but they are not really what I am looking for. I can also pay for shipping if you are inside the U.S. So, if you have a broken ipod just sitting around, why not make a few bucks off it?
As I am sure some of you will want to know, what do I want to do with it? I want to take it apart. I tend to like taking things apart, and have wondered about the ipods since I got one a few months ago. It could also be fun to see the internal differences between the different generations of ipod.

*Bump* I will now pay up to $50 for a broken ipod (except for a 1st gen 5GB, then only $30). I might pay a bit more if it comes with the cables and power brick.

Magid has a point about the price. You can get much more for broken ipods elsewhere (e.g. ebay). I was looking for people that just want to get ride of their broken ipod without messing with all the problems of ebay. If I can not get them for $50 I will just have to wait a year or two until the price drops. Of course, that is what I thought a year ago, so I may be waiting awhile.

A weak ago I managed to get a 10GB and a 20GB off ebay at an ok price. However, they both have broken hard drives and displays (thus the low price). If I could get a working 2nd generation drive and display I might be interested. However, I am mostly looking for broken ipods to fiddle with, and am not counting on being able to fix them. If I knew that I could fix them and sell them for what the parts cost I might be able to pay a bit more for them, but I don't want to spend lots of money on the chance of getting a working ipod. BTW, if anyone wants a picture of an ipod hard drive with a shattered platter I can post one.
