FYI, OS X can play DVDs from external DVD drives (I've done it myself), but if you don't have a DVD drive installed INTERNALLY, it won't install the DVD player software. You'll still be able to extract DVD Player from the OS X install CD, or get it from a friend. In fact, when I installed Panther on my PowerMac G4 for the first time, I installed it from an external DVD drive, and DVD Player didn't install because the DVD wasn't internal.
