Howdy folks.

What we have here is a late 1999 Five Flavours model iMac 333mhz that has been improved a bit. From the origional 128mb ram we've upgraded it to 512mb. I took out the origional 6gig 5400 rpm hdd and replaced it with a Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 8 30gb 7200rpm 2mb cache drive. The Maxtor drive is a half height drive, cramming all 30 gigs onto a single platter. Ordinarily, due to the configureation of the iMac and the limited airflow, 7200rpm drives would run to hot for this computer. Since this is a half height drive, there is much more room above the drive and consequently airflow around it is markedly improved. Based just on the startup times in Mac OS X Panther, I estimate that this drive is atleast twice as fast due to higher areal density and faster rotational speed than the stock 6gig drive resulting in a -very- zippy Purple iMac.

The iMac does include a Pather install, but if you want the retail box and origional install CD's you can buy if from me for my cost at $79. Just an fyi, Panther performes significantly faster on older G3's compared to even Jaguar. Startup times are about 30-40 seconds, and shutdowns are just a few moments away and finder actions are just about indistinguishable from OS 9.

I'm also selling a retail boxed copy (used) of Tropico which works natively in OS 9 and X. Tropico is kind of like a cross between Sim City and The Sims but with a Fun Fun Fun in the Third World Dictatorship Carribean Sun twist. I've spent hundreds of hours playing this game. If you buy the iMac, you can have it for free. Otherwise it's $15 shipped.

I'll accept paypal, cashiers checks, and personal checks, but the personal checks need to clear before I'll ship anything.

My dream price is $300 shipped for this Purple Beastie, but I'll be happy to entertain offers.

I'm going to throw this baby up for auction in a couple of days so if anybody from MacNN opts to buy it before then, I'll include the retail copy of Panther for only $40, half what I paid.

$250 shipped anywhere in the US. Any Takers? Tropico and a basic microsoft optical mouse included if you want 'em.

Oh, and the origional keyboard and mouse, but the left shift key is flaky. That stupid round mouse has an adapter too.
