Actually the 1.7GHz Centrino will be faster than your 2.4. The centrino is faster, it is based on the P3 and gets a higer IPC than the P4 Mobile.

Yep. The Pentium-M (called "Centrino when coupled with wireless networking) is like 3:2 clock for clock to the P4-M. Actually, those 1.2ghz Taulatin PIII's rocked. I had a 1.2 ghz Celeron version and it was very fast, even compared to 2ghz P4 Celerons..
