$30 gets you a perfectly good working CoStar Labelwriter XL Plus and a Keyspan Serial to USB adapter and the associated cables and software and manuals (I can burn you a copy of the latest Dymo software if downloading it is a problem for you).
I recently received a new version of this Labelwriter as a gift, so I am selling my old one.
This Labelwriter will only work on OS 8.5 to 9, or in classic when running OS X. The Dymo software for OS X will not support serial connections- only printers that are connected directly via USB. (At least that's what I gathered from their website). So if you are running OS 8.5-9 or don't mind starting classic to print excellent quality shipping labels or name badges or barcodes or whatever, this is the printer for you.
It is a 9 year old thermal printer, so it still works perfectly and never needs ink! Labels come in many different shapes and sizes, about 200 on a roll that retails for about $8 or so at places like Staples. It prints a 2x4 label in 4 seconds.

The cheapest new version of this printer retails for $130 at Mac Mall, for example, so save yourself some money and pick mine up for a fraction of the cost.
Caveat: I had to add a cardboard disc to the spool to get the labels to feed correctly and not cut off the top line. I don't know why, as it certianly isn't worn out inside.
I can would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
