I'm considering selling my G5. It's like new, owned since February, with standard options- 160 GB SATA, 512 MB DDR RAM, NVidia 5200 video, and so on. It's still under Applecare protection. The power supply has been replaced so there is none of that noise that all other G5s have. If you want to make me an offer, please email jldawson91 at hotmail.
Thanks

ok. Here's my asking price: $2000 firm, plus shipping. Take paypal, money order or cashier's check. If nobody else emails in a day or so I am going to put it up on eBay.
G5 Dual 1.8Ghz PowerPC
512K L2 cache
900Mhz Frontside bus
*512MB PC3200 (400Mhz) RAM (8GB maximum)
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64MB DDR SDRAM
- ADC and DVI connector
*160GB Serial ATA; 7200 rpm
SuperDrive DVD-R/CD-RW
*Three open full-length PCI-X slots
One FireWire 800 port, 2x Firewire 400
Three USB 2.0 ports, Two USB 1.1 ports
AGP 8X PRO Slot with graphics card
Two internal hard drive bays (1 occupied)
Build in 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet
56K V.92 modem
MacOS X 10.3 Panther
iLife (iTunes, iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie)
Apple keyboard and optical mouse
DVI to VGA adapter
USB keyboard extension cable
Modem cable
AirPort antenna
6 months of Applecare remaining
* The 'new' PowerMac Dual 1.8 that Apple is selling for $2,000
only has a 80GB drive, 256MB of RAM (expandable to only 4GB),
and standard PCI slots.
For $150 extra, I will throw in Applecare for Powermac (extends it to 3 years)
For $100 extra, you get brand new Transintl DDR RAM (2x256MB) for a total of 1GB

You might want to hold off on eBay until Apple clears their stock of the 'old' G5 Dual 1.8Ghz-- your exact configuration & model is going for $1799 in their limited-time "special deals" section.
Looks like you picked the wrong week to sell.

It's a refurb, which I personally wouldn't buy, and they charge tax, so it's not exactly $1799.
Given that I would consider alternate offers, if reasonable.

A refurb with 12 months warranty, 1799 + tax free shipping use a credit card with a warranty extention seems like a good deal compared to a used machine for $2000 plus shipping etc.
You really should lower your asking price.

Why, do you want to buy it or are you just being 'helpful'? Really, I said I would consider altenate offers, which means less than $2,000. I posted here knowing that MacNN forum readers are smart enough to know what their options are.
Like I said, I don't care much for refurbished electronics, that's my preference. I'd rather get the working system that's in new condition and has been taken care of than take my chances with a refurb. Again, that's me. I'm also offering extended Applecare for $100 less than what Apple charges and a chance to easily add another 512Mb of quality RAM to it. The power supply has also been replaced with the latest revision, which is no guarantee with a refurb, so hey, I don't know, I think it's a good deal. Maybe you don't. That's fine. Why poo-poo all over my ad? All I'm trying to do is pay some bills? Last thing I want to do is give someone a bad deal, and I don't think this is.

No one is going to spend that much money on a used dual 1.8 for that price. Good luck on selling it for such a rip off price. Anyone who even think about buying that for 2000 is crazy and stupid.

2000 is a bit high but it isnt a ripoff. I dont mind when people point out better deals, problems, ect. Just dont be a dick about it.

When Apple does refurbs, in the case of the numerous power supply issues that they have dealt with, most likely the refurb has a new power supply as well. My friend found this to be the case on his refurb purchase.
I do understand your frustration though, it seems like whenever you post something for sale on this forum as well as many other Mac forums, there are those that feel the need to provide you with their .02 cents of marketing analysis. The rules of these forums should be changed so that unless you have serious inquiries regarding the item(s) for sale, just shut up!
Good luck!

Well, all I said was that it's no guarantee. Good thing for your friend, last thing you want to do with a G5 is have to move it anywhere, especially when it's to a service center.
I'm reasonable. I obviously posted $2,000 before someone courteously pointed out that a refurbished G5 is cheaper. I didn't do it intentionally, I didn't even know. I would pay a bit more for my own computer than for a random refurbished one. Not everyone else is like me, though, so how about this: If you're interested in the G5, why don't you email me and tell me what you're willing to pay, and I'll respond and tell you if I'm willing to sell it for that. Can't make it any more simple than that.
Besides, was it a "rip off" before we found out that Apple's selling it cheaper? I don't think so, when you compare it with either getting an inferior Dual 1.8Ghz for $2,000 or a comparable Dual 2.0Ghz system for $500 more. Don't we always boast the "resale value" as one of the benefits of owning an Apple computer? At a certain point, it doesn't make any sense for me to sell it, because I'm planning on buying a cheaper replacement for my work. If the margin is too small, I may as well keep the G5, even though it's going to take me a couple of years to pay it off.

I dont know, maybe maybe, depending on what kind it is, components, condition and such. I'd prefer to get money for it.
