I was looking forward to buy a G5 system. I found a good deal at Powermax.com. It is a G5 2.0 Ghz Dual for $1999. It is fine to buy a refurb from Powermax. Any experiences??? Thanks

does it come with any warranty or any kind of replacement assurance? I would be much more reluctant if it was a laptop, but see how long you have until you can return it if need be and whether they will charge a restocking fee.

i traded in a 15" i had and purchased a 17in refurb from them and had no problems at all. my g-friend recently bought a refurb ibook and they threw in a bunch of goodies as well. you won't get the most you could on trade-ins and it'll take a while to get your money, which they are up front about, but i would recomend them. and no sales tax in OR. refurb units still carry the same factory warranty and Applecare options so nothin to worry about.

j-rocca thanks for the info. I'll keep my fingers crossed and buy from them. I see that they have good customer service. Since I do not need to trade-in I can go ahead. Will post again on the results.

Thanks

Just don't buy anything used from them...most of their prices for used hardware are ridiculously high, even in the "Blowouts" section.

could you suggest some good places to buy refurbished then? Apple store was carrying a Dual 2ghz for $1999. But it sold out in 10 minutes flat. My luck...

Refurbs are fine. By used, I meant older hardware that they probably obtained as trade-ins, and marked up substantially.

Edit: Smalldog.com is a great place for both new and refurbed Macs. I've used them for a couple of years now.

Apple has the Dual 2.0 G5 (refurb) back on their web site this morning - 11-20-04 8:30 AM EST.
